Bravo Fleet
Summary
Danak, ‘yorkie’ to his friends, had gotten into the academy, but 4 years of learning, stuck on earth, no chance!
He’d turned down the commission, wanting to get straight into the action he enlisted and was soon posted to the Starbase Bravo. Starfleet was his way of getting away from that dammed moon. His family had been there since the first landing but mining wasn’t for him, the stars were what he wanted to see and engineering was his way of getting there.
Appearance
‘Yorkie’ is in his early twenties with a lean build, shaped by hands-on work and long hours in tight space’s. While much has advanced since the first colonists arrived at Alpha Centuri, mining was hard work and it shows, even on the youngest colonists.
He has short, dark brown hair that’s usually out of shape or flattened from his field gear. His skin is light-to-medium toned but is often smudged with grease or dust from the ship’s guts.
He typically wears his uniform sleeves rolled up, probably one of the few things about him that are not regulation, revealing forearms marked with small scars from countless rounds of maintenance. There’s usually a faint shadow of stubble on his jaw, like someone always mid-shift, even when off duty.
Personality
Definitely a doer, not a talker, ‘Yorkie’ is practical, quick-witted, and observant, the kind of crewman who listens more than he talks and always seems to know a little more than he lets on.
He’s got a dry sense of humour and has bit of a sarcastic streak, especially when stuck with the dirtiest jobs. He always seems to pretend to grumble but he takes pride in his work and genuinely cares about his work. He’s loyal, grounded, and unpretentious, with zero patience for nonsense or protocol for the sake of protocol.
History
Early Life – (2380-2399)
Yorkie was born in 2380 on a hard-edged mining colony orbiting a barren moon in the Alpha Centauri system. His family had been there since the first landing, generations of miners, all grit and callouses. But Yorkie had other ideas. While his siblings learned to operate drills, haul ore and were happy on the colony, he was cracking open old generator cores, rerouting power and fixing what no one else could be bothered to look at.
Engineering made sense to him, he understood machines. They didn’t talk down to you or sugar coat anything. So from a young age, Yorkie threw himself into fiddling with stuff, he could patch up just about anything with a spanner, some elbow grease, and a bit of luck.
He passed the Starfleet Academy entrance exams on his first try with great scores. But four whole years in classrooms on Earth, studying diplomatic protocol and waiting for a cadet cruise? That was not for him. He wanted to get straight into the action. He turned down the commission and enlisted instead, wanting to get out into space and actually do something. Starfleet raised some eyebrows at that choice, but Yorkie didn’t care. He didn’t want to sit in a command chair. He wanted to earn space, one repair at a time.
Starfleet Enlisted Training Centre – (2399-2400)
Enlisted at Starfleet’s Enlistment Training Centre (ETC) on Alpha Centuri mid 2399. Following the completion of basic training in early 2400, he enlisted in the Engineering Division and shortly afterwards graduated in the Engineering Technician Apprenticeship with Honours early 2401.
Starbase Bravo – (2401-Present)
His first posting was Starbase Bravo, early 2401 as a Crewman Engineering Specialist, where he quickly found his place in the bowels of the station, it was where he belonged elbow deep in the guts of the stations systems, power relays, crawling through access tubes, making the impossible work on a broken deadline. The nickname “Yorkie” stuck thanks to a crew chief with a bad sense of humour, and Danak just rolled with it. Small, scrappy, doesn’t back down? He figured it fit.
