Velesa

Velesa is a Starfleet officer who currently serves as the Chief Science Officer on the USS Atlas. A highly accomplished theoretical physicist, she has successfully transitioned her expertise into practical applications in the field. Velesa is known for her relentless curiosity, infectious enthusiasm for science, and ability to inspire junior officers to explore bold hypotheses while maintaining disciplined research standards.

Velesa embodies many of the classic Denobulan traits: outgoing, talkative, and endlessly friendly. Her insatiable curiosity drives her career in science, and she delights in mentoring junior officers, encouraging them to follow hunches and explore scientific questions creatively. At the same time, she is disciplined and pragmatic, quick to step in and rein in studies that are veering off course. Over the years, she has learned the importance of maintaining professional boundaries and distance as Chief Science Officer, striking a balance between approachability and authority. Velesa has worked at many different research institutions and outposts across the Federation. Consequently, she understands the importance of being open-minded when interacting with a diverse range of people coming from various fields of study.

Unlike most Denobulans, Velesa has only a single husband, who resides on Denobula. When asked about expanding her family, she shrugs, joking that she hasn’t yet found “Mr Right number two or three.” Although her formal training is in physics and warp theory, she values calmness and reflection, often spending quiet moments in the arboretum. She is just as likely to be found in Ten Forward or other social areas during celebrations or gatherings. Her colleagues often describe her as talkative and endlessly engaging, able to discuss any topic with depth and enthusiasm, making her both a brilliant scientist and a vibrant presence aboard the ship.

After spending a long time stationed at the Avalon Fleet Yards as part of a particle physics research team, Velesa grew restless and wanted to get deeper into the field. In 2400, she applied to join the crew of the USS Columbia and has enjoyed life on a starship ever since.
