Captain Blaze Carson walked through the corridors of Mirage Station with a sense of authority about him and a gruff look on his face. He had been in command of the station for a few months now and she was starting to feel like home. As usual he had been making his rounds when he got a call from his XO. “Captain, can you report to the operation center as soon as possible?” he grunted with a sign of annoyance at the interruption of his daily flow “Will be there soon.” he replied. Ellis was a capable XO and he was thankful for her, but he still hated interruptions to his daily flow.
He quickly made his way towards ops and arrived only a few minutes after she had requested his presence. He walked into the room and still couldn’t believe how big it was. The ops center was like a huge control room, while the room had no windows the amount of screens allowed for full surveillance of the interior and exterior of the station at all times. All operations could be run from this location and had seamless transition to the rest of the areas within the station. Carson and Ellis were here more than anyone else.
He made his way over to Ellis who seemed to be looking at the comms console for some reason with Commander Bernard Buckley. Carson cleared his through and saw Ellis jump which allowed him a small smirk “What’s the problem XO?” Ellis shook her head and motioned to Buckley “That’s for him to explain. I think he can do it much better than I can at this moment.”
Buckley tapped at his console. “About two hours ago, we started losing communication and contact with some ships and farther stations. We thought it was something intermittent, but we dug into it.” He moved to the next screen, “An hour ago, we lost contact with Fourth Fleet HQ… thirty minutes ago, we lost even more.” He slid a PADD across his desk. “It’s not just communications. Science reported the they started losing sensors in the affected areas around the same time. That’s the worst – the ships that are still in range are reporting issues with warp drive activation and warp field stability issues. Long story short – something out there is isolating our abilities to talk, look, and move.”
Carson rubbed his white beard for a moment. “So outside of that area, ” he pointed at the map, “We’re dead in the water?”
Bernard tapped at his console one more time, “We ran tests three times between my department and science. We’re still looking into it, but that’s the current situation.”
Ellis nodded “That seems to be the issue and we have no way to explain what is happening, Sir. It seems like we are cut off from any and all help.”
Carson nodded and activated his commbadge “Carson to Tomuya have you heard from the Neptune or Hydra?”
The comms were quiet for a moment before the familiar voice of the squadron commander chimed in. “I have not heard from them since their last report four hours ago.” Carson shook his head because that meant it wasn’t just for the station but for the entire quadrant.
He looked at Buckley “Do you have any suggestions on what we could try to do to contact the ships?”
The communications chief frowned as he thought through the various methods, “I’ll start working my way through frequencies and systems we use today…I’ll get the team working through the catalogue of previous systems. Hopefully, we’ll find something.”
Carson nodded and looked at the station overview wondering just what was happening. The station was cutoff and without knowing the extent this could be a huge problem for the station.
