Newly promoted to captain, Day was offered her choice of several ships left gutted by the Vaadwaur attacks. She chose the Luna-class USS Oberon, a kindred spirit in steel and duranium, a ship that had survived the chaos of Frontier Day and the brutal fighting that followed. In the Incursion, Oberon’s command staff gave their lives to protect hundreds of thousands of civilians.

Now, following an extensive refit, the Oberon is assigned to Task Force 72. Her mission is clear: to act in Starfleet’s interests, negotiating with regional powers, gathering intelligence, and opening the doors to worlds and sectors once closed by politics or practicality. The crew that endured on the Vallejo will now carry the torch forward, aboard a vessel worthy of their courage.

Thunderchild Heavy Cruiser Squadron

The Thunderchild Heavy Cruiser Squadron is a specialized, tri-lateral deployment formation within Task Force 72 of Starfleet’s Fourth Fleet. Task Force 72 specializes in high-stakes diplomatic operations, peacekeeping, border stabilization, intelligence gathering, and protective escorts across volatile regions, in the Alpha Quadrant and beyond, operating primarily from Starbase 72 in the Minos Korva system.

The squadron functions as a versatile rapid-response unit, providing tactical muscle to support TF72’s diplomatic mandate. It combines Starfleet’s precision and exploratory ethos with the raw combat prowess of a Klingon cruiser and the stealth/intelligence expertise of a Romulan Republic bird of prey. This allied composition allows for joint operations that demonstrate Federation commitment to multilateral cooperation while deterring aggression in tense frontier zones, such as those involving lingering post-war tensions or emerging threats.

Commanded by Captain Rynar Jast from the flagship USS Thunderchild, the squadron emphasizes diplomacy above all, but is always ready to respond with coordinated tactics, shared intelligence, and cultural exchange programs to enhance interoperability.
