The arching sky is calling
Spacemen back to their trade.
ALL HANDS! STAND BY! FREE FALLING!
And the lights below us fade.
Out ride the sons of Terra,
Far drives the thundering jet,
Up leaps a race of Earthmen,
Out, far, and onward yet.
– ‘The Green Hills of Earth,’ Robert Heinlein
The USS Endeavour (NCC-91895) is a Constitution III-class starship assigned to the Fourth Fleet under the command of Karana Valance. Commissioned in early 2400, Endeavour was built from the parts of her decommissioned namesake, a Manticore-class, and reformed into something new: a symbol of Starfleet’s spirit of cooperation and exploration.
Since early 2401, she has been assigned to the Midgard Sector, on the Beta Quadrant border, and is part of Sirius Squadron, a unit responsible for maintaining the Federation’s regional interests. These interests include diplomatic outreach, with a particular focus on cooperation with the Federation’s allies in the Romulan Republic, as well as humanitarian aid for former Star Empire worlds, exploration of the vast and unknown territories of the fallen empire, and supporting the Federation’s border holdings and needs. As a powerful ship with a multi-mission profile, Endeavour’s day-to-day consists of providing necessary support to these essential operations.
Endeavour’s primary duty, however, is to act as the squadron’s expeditionary unit, the first choice to respond to emerging situations within the Midgard Sector and beyond. These duties may include humanitarian or tactical crises, but also extend to scientific mysteries or entering diplomatic hot-spots. When necessary, Endeavour can act independently for extended periods, and thus may be dispatched to regions or for durations where immediate support may be unavailable for some time.
Either duty keeps Endeavour’s crew occupied and challenged. In Midgard, Endeavour now seeks to reach out to those abandoned by the collapse of the empire, forge new friendships, and explore this newly-independent expanse. Refugees need Starfleet aid, worlds no longer under the rule of Rator or Romulus need welcoming to the galactic family, and vast stretches of the unknown must be explored. But the region is still volatile and dangerous, a breeding ground for criminals and warlords. Not everyone will look fondly on the Federation’s arrival, and many will have a right to be left alone. Walking the line between reaching out and interfering, between exploring and trespassing, between helping and imposing, is a tall challenge for Endeavour in this new era of Starfleet’s efforts to reach back out to the galaxy, and bring hope to a shrouded region.

BF: Endeavour began in late 2019, and is over 25 missions and almost a million words long. While it is written with the hope of being accessible to new readers, some character threads and storylines are several years old. The following is a suggested reading list for people who want to catch up on old storylines, but do not necessarily wish to read all of Endeavour up to this point. An overall narrative summary can be found here and here on the wiki.
The suggested missions, in order:
Sirius Expeditionary Squadron, also known as Sirius Squadron, is a squadron centered around the Odyssey-class USS Sirius under the command of Commodore Matt Rourke, based out of Gateway Station in the Midgard Sector on the Federation’s Beta Quadrant frontier. The squadron serves two missions: the secondary mission of supporting the sector-wide responsibilities of the Gateway Station, and its primary mission as a rapid deployment force beyond Federation borders.
In its expeditionary capacity, Sirius Squadron stands ready to deploy outside of Federation territory at short notice to respond to emerging situations across the galaxy. With multiple versatile and powerful ships at its disposal, the squadron is capable of operating independently and without support for extended periods, and is flexible enough to face a range of missions, including under volatile circumstances where objectives and conditions can quickly change.
Outside of such deployments, the squadron maintains readiness in case of need, and supports Gateway Station’s operations. From its HQ, its ships pursue Starfleet’s mission to maintain regional stability through diplomatic and humanitarian operations and pursue avenues of scientific research and exploration into the former territories of the Old Romulan Star Empire. Since the escalation of tensions with the Klingon Empire and their interest in the territory of the fallen Star Empire, Sirius Squadron has been a cornerstone of protecting both the Federation border, and Starfleet’s allies in the Romulan Republic.

Valance swore, breaking the quiet hum of her ready room. Over on the comfortable seating by the windows, Airex looked up from the PADDs he’d strewn across the coffee table, and she grimaced. ‘It goes from bad to worse,’ she explained with a sigh. ‘Thawn says that our power reserves and flow [...]

‘Finally. What’s a guy gotta do to get your attention around here?’ Nate Beckett knew this came out more as a whine than a witticism, but was in too much pain to muster some discipline and salvage his dignity. ‘Have an emergent medical issue, or arrive before Sickbay must contend with [...]

If one could strike gold on a mission of stellar surveys, studying the Mesea Storm was more like striking copper. Such were the metallic hues the swirling plasma storm cast through the windows of the Round Table, Endeavour’s officers’ lounge given a cheap gilding at this late hour. Kharth’s [...]

‘I just got off the comms with Amadeus Dyke.’ Even the holographic projection of Vice Admiral Morgan, hovering above Valance’s desk, dripped with trepidation. ‘He’s not impressed.’ Valance wasn’t impressed, either. But she tightened her jaw and tried to not let it show. ‘I’d [...]
