Bandalia Prime was much like Risa. Full of gambling, beaches, and every kind of debauchery imaginable.

Marcus had come for a vacation only to learn that while most science on Bandalia had advanced to space flight, their medical science seemed lacking. So instead of a nice beach vacation. Marcus found himself working as a teacher to the Bandalian medical corps. They were eager but a couple hundred years behind in their knowledge. Marcus was doing his best to help them, but it was going to be a long process, one that with his limited shore leave he couldn’t possibly complete.

After another long day of teaching Marcus collapsed back in his bed just as he fell asleep an alarm sounded a medical emergency.  He jumped back up got dressed grabbed his med bag and headed to the infirmary.

As he arrived he was thanked profusely by the local team. Apparently a tourist had fallen when a zip line failed. The height had been great and the patient a Tellarian had suffered pretty bad injuries. He would live but the local team did not have anyone with the surgical training for the needed work.

Marcus had them observe and record as he did his work and had them assist where they could. In the end Marcus was sure the Tellarian would make a full recovery.

The rest of his vacation was better, they made sure he got to enjoy the beaches and sights before he left. Marcus got their computers connected to the Starfleet Medical databases and had his ships engineer put in an EMH for them. The EMH could teach them as well as do procedures that they weren’t trained for.

As he finally packed his bags and got ready to go the Bandalians gifted him a very nice gift basket filled with local fruits, souvenirs, and their best local chocolate.

Marcus said his goodbyes and got in his shuttle flying back towards the Merced. He popped one of the delicious chocolates in his mouth and with a smile he guided the shuttle into its space in the shuttlebay.

Back on the ship now he walked towards the medical department knowing that more adventure and work awaited him, and he knew he wouldn’t want it any other way.

Great short story about their 'non' vacation. I'm looking forward to reading more :)
